Report Says Apple's 3G iPhone Will Debut in May

According to NewsFactor Apple will start offering a 3G iPhone in May. If so, the new iPhone could spur application development as well as sales overseas, where 3G is much more common than in the US. There will be "an initial small build in May," and "significant production" in June, perhaps timed for the iPhone developers' conference that month.

Production volume run in May is expected to be more than three million iPhones, with another eight million in the third quarter. This could help Apple meet its target of selling 10 million iPhones by the end of this year. As of January, Apple has said it had sold about four million.

Apple looking to put handwriting recognition into the iPhone?

From Engadget - Above job posting from Apple's site is for a Handwriting Recognition Engineer. Nothing unusual there since Apple has its Inkwell handwriting recognition software in OS X for years now. Except there's the part that reads: "The recognition technology you create may extend beyond Mac OS X to other applications and the iPhone."

Sun Bringing Java to iPhone

Sun announced that they are developing a Java Virtual Machine for Apple's iPhone with the newly released Software Development Kit (SDK). The specific version of Java will be based on the Java Micro Edition (ME) and will open the iPhone to a large library of existing Java applications.

Cops Shut Down Meizu's CeBIT Booth for Ripping Off Apple

China-based Meizu, manufacturer of the M8 iPhone ripoff, was among a number of exhibitors who had their Cebit booths temporarily closed down by the Criminal Hanover. The closures were part of a major police operation against possible patent violations at CeBIT.

The immediate assumption was centered on the M8, which does the original better, with specs that include quad-band GSM/EDGE, 802.11b/g, Bluetooth, a 3.4" touch screen and a 3MP camera. However, in an update, it was revealed the closure stemmed from MP3-licensing issues, which has seen been resolved. Meizu's booth reopened afterwards.

$100 price drop on iPhones and iPods coming soon

According to 9to5Mac they received a tip Apple is planning on dropping prices again on the iPhone and iPod Touch line within the next month or two by much as $100. The 8Gb iPod Touch will be dropped from the lineup.

Forbes is also advising its readers to hold off on buying iPhones as they think the 3G model is right around the corner.
