Apple reportedly secures NAND flash supply for new iPhone 3G S

Apple has secured NAND flash supply from an unspecified US vendor as well as Samsung Electronics and Toshiba for the third quarter. The US chip supplier may see 50-70% of its total NAND chip capacity during the upcoming quarter occupied by orders placed by Apple.

The new iPhone 3G S will hit shelves in the coming weeks at US$199 for the 16GB version and US$299 for the 32GB.

Apple rumored to buy up Flash Chips for iPhone 2009

A recent ThinkEquity Partners report claims Apple has bought all Samsung NAND Flash production until April. Buying components like Flash chips is done close to production to optimize cost. If Apple is having the iPhone 2009 produced now in the next couple of weeks a June release seems possible. A photo of what is supposed to be the backside of a new 16GB iPhone 2009 surfaced last week.

Apple orders 50 million iPhone NAND chips from Samsung

Per DigiTimes, Apple has ordered from Samsung, the world's primary supplier of flash memory 50-million "8Gb-equivalent" NAND chips presumably for use in iPhones. This follows a June oder for 25 million of the same chips. In response, Samsung has reportedly told its lesser customers that it would "sharply cut supply" of NAND to them while the order is being fulfilled.
